So, who is this guy? Well, here’s some of my biography information. Feel free to contact me regarding any of our business ventures, or discuss something new that we haven’t thought of yet!
Dr. Turner gained 26 years experience in the Computer/Electronics Industry with positions as Engineer, Programmer, Designer, Program/Product Manager, Systems Engineering Manager, Messaging Architect and IT Manager. He held an Executive position with Microsoft Corporation as the Regional IT Manager for North America.
He is a veteran of the United States Air Force, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-5) in under 4 years. All this was done while raising a family and continuing both his education and martial arts training.
After having passed his 10 year anniversary with Microsoft, and in the aftermath of September 11th, Dr. Turner began looking for new challenges. He found it in the calling to “give back” to his community through his passion for Martial Arts. This prompted him to leave a very lucrative position to focus on quality of life and to devote himself full-time to his community.
He remains passionate about technology and people development, both of which he uses in his martial arts instruction and training.
Dr. Turner was one of the original founders, principles and Instructors in Mid-Cities Martial Arts, Inc., until 2001. At that time he left to strike out on his own and open Turners Martial Arts Studios, LLC in Flower Mound, TX. This school grew to over 350 students in the first two years and continues to flourish.
Dr. Turner has been training in martial arts since 1971. The styles studied include TaeKwonDo, Shotokan, Kenpo, Judo, JuJitsu, Hapkido, and others. In the 1980’s he decided to find something he and his 3 sons could do together. The boys decided Karate lessons would be fun. That’s when the commitment to training in just one system really started. Dr. Turner has since progressed through the American Karate System and was awarded his current rank of 7th Degree MASTER Black Belt by world-reknowned Grandmaster J. Pat Burleson in May of 2015. He continues to study other styles and also holds a 4th Degree Black Belt in Karate with the United Martial Arts Federation, under Grandmaster Armie Rizzo, and a 4th Degree Black Belt in the Goju-Shorei Weapons System under Master Dave McNeill, Soke, the founder of the system. He is one of only three Instructors in Texas that are authorized by Master McNeill to teach the Goju-Shorei Weapons System. One of those is a student of Dr. Turner’s. He has also studied Tai Chi under GrandMaster Dennis Kelly and his TaiChi-USA system. He is a certified Instructor and “BulletMan” by the International FAST Defense Organization, and teaches Adrenal Response Training for Personal Safety. He is additionally Certified to teach by the National Law Enforcement Tactical Defense Instructors Association.
Dr. Turner is highly focused on being the best Instructor he can be. Toward that end, he trains continuously to increase his abilities to teach. This is done through various seminars, conferences, and self-study through organizations such as the National Association of Professional Martial Artists, the United Martial Arts Federation, the Goju-Shorei Weapons System, the American Teachers Association of the Martial Arts, and others as available. This was recognized on August 9, 2003 when Dr. Turner was inducted into the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame for his continued commitment as a martial arts Instructor.
He is active in his community and church and donates a portion of the proceeds from his Personal Safety courses to a crisis intervention organization for abused women and children.
He may be contacted directly for Group, Private or Corporate classes and seminars.
